About Us

Welcome to Mutual 1st Federal, your full service community credit union.

Since our doors opened in 1949, our goal has always been to help members meet their personal financial goals with products and services that fit their needs.

What Is a Credit Union?

We're glad you asked! A credit union is a financial institution much like a bank, except for one crucial difference--we are owned by our members and managed by a volunteer board of directors.

As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, our purpose is to return benefits to our members who receive a number of exceptional benefits, including very competitive dividend rates on savings and interest rates on loans, low or no charges on services, and a financial institution backed by strong reserves.

Should you decide to become a member, you will receive a vote in everything we do. After all, we're doing it for you!

What Does the Credit Union Do With the Money It's Holding?

We want to give it right back to our members, in the form of loans. Member loans are our first priority; we attempt to lend as much of our deposits as possible. This permits us to pass on lower rates to members who borrow and higher yields to members who save with us.

Because we don't have stockholders, all money that is not loaned out is invested in federally insured accounts.

Is My Money Safe?

Of course! Mutual 1st Federal is federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). Share accounts in federally insured credit unions are insured up to $250,000, an amount equal to the insurance provided by the FDIC.
